Suggest Treatment For Prolonged And Irregular Periods

hello im demetria. i have a couple of questions. how come my period last so long and then it seems to come back on quick also? and how come i have been bleeding dark blood for some days to a week? my doctor was going to have me take birth control or something to get my period on track or something she said. im not really sure.
