Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression

I have been suffering with severe depression for 7years noe and my phsychiatrist has suggested lithium. I can only find the bad side effects, is it worth the risk, is it very good treatment i m getting worse and i m hoarding junk which is getting out of control Linda
