Suggest Treatment For Sleep Apnea

I would like to know what is wrong when all of a sudden some one stops breathing for a few seconds not when they re Sleepng like (Sleep Apnea) only when awake like sitting on the couch or walking all of a sudden they just stop breathing and then it kicks back in what is this condition called?
