Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Laryngitis

I was around a friend this past weekend who has had a sore throat which ended up with laryngitis. Two days later my throat started feeling scratchy and last night it throbed and had bad flem (felt like flem around my vocal cords) and today I actually can cough up flem and throat still hurts. I had sinus surgery 2 years ago and still have dry sinuses so I am prone to catch sinus/upper respiratory infections easily. My doctor gave me a refill about 6 months ago so I did fill that perscription and going to get it. Do you feel I need the antibiotic or should this run its course. I'm afraid without the antibiotic it will get deep in my chest but I don't want to take too much antibiotic either.
