Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Loss Of Voice

my father who is 80 years old, suffers from sore throat since 5 years ago due to which his voice got stuck and can not speak comfortably, I want to know if there is any treatment for such kind of problem, if so, where can I get him treated and how long is the treatment process? please advise
