Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Throat Pain

I have a terribly painful sore throat and am taking 600 mg of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. The pain greatly increases when the ibuprofin wears off. I also have Hydromet syrup to help me sleep until I get through the next couple of days and nights. Is it safe to take the hydromet within an hour of taking the ibuprofen or do I have to wait until the ibuprofin wears off? thanks for your help. The pain while swallowing wakes me up and I'm hoping that the hydromet would let me sleep through the pain if the ibuprofen is still effective.
