I get the same cold/flu a couple times each year. It starts with a sore throat, then eventually includes excessive mucous production in both the mouth and throat, and sometimes an uncontrollable urge to cough. Usually it last about a week and then goes away on its own...I take a lot of vitamin a and c, eat a lot of chicken noodle soup and consume a lot of cough drops, but I have never found the need to go to the doctor. This time however, since it has persisted for 13 days, I went to the doctor on Thursday. They didn't give a specific diagnosis but prescribed an antibiotic, cough syrup, an inhaler, and cough suppressant pills. One thing that dawned on me today is that my fingernails have stopped growing. It has been at least 7 or 8 days since I trimmed them and zero growth. All the other times I have gotten this cold/ flu, my fingernails have never stopped growing. Is this added symptom something to be concerned about. Might it indicate that it's something more than the normal cold/flu that I normally get? I would appreciate your feedback.
