Suggest Treatment For Tonsillitis

my son has been to the doctor and is on antibiotics for tonsillitis however one side of his face is swollen, he has earache on that side, he is having trouble opening his mouth because his jaw on that side hurts so much, glands are huge and his throat is extremely sore. Are these symptoms typical of tonsillitis? I have researched tonsillitis and found it effects the ears, glands and throat but nothing about swollen face and jaw.
