Suggest Treatment For White Spots And Swelling On Tonsils

i have white spots on my tonsil,another one is swollen. it hurts when i swallow and relieves after salt water gargles. but it is still swollen and white spot stays there... how long does is take to recover from this sorre throat. I am 29 and i am a teacher who all the time has to talk and my throat hurts. is it dangerous at this age to remove my tonsils??
