Suggest Ways To Deal With Dementia

My mother is 93 years old and in fairly good physical health. She has been writing an unusual amount of checks to give to charitable organizations and cannot afford the hundreds per month that she is writing. She will not listen to reason and seems to be in denial. Is this a sign of dementia or some other problem?
