Taking Metformin 1000mg Po Bid. I Was Hoping To Get

Taking metformin 1000mg po bid. I was hoping to get rid of the side effects of nausea/diarrhea but they persist. This has been going on for about 6 mo. Not sure how much longer I should hold out. Im kinda miserable. Going to the PCP on Friday. Should I continue the metformin in hopes of the SE going away or switch. Im on no other diabetic medications, I do have symptoms of peripheral neuropathy and last AIC was 6.7. Any thoughts on a good alternative?
