Thank you sir. My PCP and I dx. Type 2 diabetes about 15 years ago. I am a nurse and had the usual S/S. We were working together at the local county jail. I was prob. 40 pounds over weight at the time. Age 53 at the time. Hs. of one brother with type 2 in later life, also a bit overweight. No other family hs. At any rate, I slimmed down and stuck to my better diet. Maintaining an HBA1C at about 6 with Metformin at 500mg TID. No problems associated with DX. Over the years he slowly increased me to Metformin 850mg TID. I had so many GI problems, ie diarrhea constantly that he decreased it to 850mg BID. I did great with no problems at all. In fact he was only doing the HBA1C Q. 6 months or yearly. Last month I had a fasting HBA1C and it was 7. He said he wanted me to try the "newer" Glucophage ER for better control at 2000mg BID with meals. I have uncontrollable diarrhea and can hardly leave my home it is so sudden and without any warning. This has greatly impacted my life. I am now 68 and heath wise with all labs, yearly eye exams, yearly H and P and weight down to 146 pounds. This is proport. to my height. I volunteer at the local free health dept., and free medical care clinics around town. Fairly active for being retired at 63. I carefully monitor my intake and watch my sugar intake. I called his office to update him. His nurse who I also know just said to give it more time--like maybe 3 months. Please advise. Thank you so much for your help, I have never consulted any other MD or esp. anyone on line. I have the "white-coat" syndrome--HaHa--but true. Prob. too much self dx., you know how that goes. Most Sincerely, Sandy Austin Nurse Retired CCHP Sorry too much information, it comes with the job--all those years documenting. Thanks Again!
