The Skin On Either Side Of The Fingernail On My

The skin on either side of the fingernail on my right middle finger has turned dark red. My fingernails are soft and that one had been bent backwards a couple of times. I trimmed the nail almost to the quick to keep it from snagging on things, and after that, the skin on either side has darkened.
