The Tops Of Both Of My Feet (near The Toes)

The tops of both of my feet (near the toes) have bruised-looking patches which are unsightly. They do not hurt or itch and they began as light red bruise looking. They have changed colors over the last couple of months. I have also noticed the bruise color advancing up the front of my leg (my shin). Do you know what this could be and what I can do about it? I asked my Nurse Practitioner and she told me to see a dermatologist.
