Two weeks ago, after 20+ years of hard drinking and occasional hard drugs, my 63 yr old husband quit drinking and suffered from severe withdrawal, severe anxiety, nausea, throwing up, difficulty breathing, delusional, his hands and arms were cold, his feet swelled up and were turning purple and very cold. I took him to the hospital and they treated him for the withdrawal. He also had a minor heart attack. His kidney enzymes were at 5000 and his heart is at 15% capacity. They got the kidney enzymes down to 1000. They discharged him after 3 days in the hospital with no instructions for his care. Just several medications and an appointment in 2 weeks with his cardiologist. I asked the nurse if he needed oxygen and she said "he's breathing the air in the room fine" but he had not been out of bed for any kind of assessment or physical therapy. The day after he returned home his hands and arms are again cold and his feet are swollen and purple.
I don't know what to do. I asked his hospital doctor what was going to happen and what I should do and his reply was " we don't know what's going to happen in the future" Again, I don't know what to do. After the experience in the hospital I don't trust them, i think they just sent him home to die. Was this normal treatment for a person in his condition? I've talked to a couple of nurses and they were shocked at the treatment we both recieved. Can someone please tell me what I should do?
