What Are The Chances Of Survival After Receiving Cut On Wrist?

After receiving an upwards wrist cut, (often seen in movies, as a means of suicide or killing someone) can you survive? How long would it take to bleed out, and what would be the most effective means of stopping the bleeding, assuming you could survive, to survive long enough to get medical attention. Would something as simple seeming as tightly wrapping the arm in Duct tape help?
