What Are The Early Signs Of Menopause?

I'm 43 and my period is 8 days late. During the past year I've averaged a period of anywhere from every 22-28 days (this is a change from every 28 days). For example, my last cycle started March 14 and the next one came on April 4. My boyfriend and I have been having sex, but always with a condom. I haven't taken a pregnancy test yet because I'm wondering if this irregularity is due to perimenopause. Or could it just be my cycle leveling off since the last one was only 21 days?
