What Are The Precautions To Be Taken After Toe Nail Surgery?

I had my ingrown toenail surgically removed today.I'm not totally clear on the after care. The doctor puut packing under part of the nail that I have to remove in 5 days. Can I get my toe wet? Should I soak it? It is still throbbing really bad and pain meds are not working. How long will it hurt? When can I wear shoes again?
