What Are The Precautions To Be Taken While Having Treatment For Leg Fracture?

I broke the right bone on my right leg, near the ankle joint. I was given an aircast cast + crutches. Today the Dr. took me off the crutches as I'm healing well and told me to go ahead and use the aircast as the walking cast that it is. Question is: it's higher than bare feet so
should I take out the insert or use a higher shoe on the other foot?
