What Are Your Views On Taking Alpha Lipoic Acid For

What are your views on taking alpha lipoic acid for sciatica symtoms ?
I am 49 yr female. I had a hip arthroscopy for torn labrum from FAI last December 2014. Since then I have sciatica symtoms, tronchantric bursitis and tendonisis of gluteus minimus. I have physiotherapy weekly along with exercises to do at home. I believe these problems are caused by the traction during the op as I did not have them before. Surgeon suggest cortisone injection but this is my last resort. I read that alpha lipoic acid helps with inflammation and neuropathy. I'm concerned that my sugar levels may drop though. At present my sugar levels are normal and my blood tests have been normal. Thank you
