What Can Cause Random Bleeding While On Birth Control Pills ?

i am on the pill but am experiencing random bleeding, i assume it is breakthrough bleeding. why do i have it and what is it? i am due to finish my pill pack tomorrow should i do that and then wait for my period next week or should i do 2 pill packs back to back?
