What Can Cause Strange Sounds In Head?

I hear an occasional sound in the right rear of my head, a "bang bang" sound or a "ta ta" sound. it is not loud, more muted. There is a similar physical sensation inside my head. Sometimes there may be up to 4 or 5 repetitions of the sound. There is a hollow quality to the sound. It often occurs when I turn my head to the left, but not always. There is a stiff place in the right rear of ny neck. Sometimes it sounds when I am still, in bed, one "bang" only only, no head turn, early in the morning. This comes and goes. There is no pain. It has been noticed for 5 years. It has become no worse or no better. I am 69 years old in good health. 5'8" 165 lbs
