What Can The Effects Of Partial Removal Of The Thyroid Gland?

My doctor is wanting to remove only the right side of my thyroid due to a biopsy of a nodule that has calcified showing suspicious cancer cells. I have two very small nodules on the left side of the thyroid that he has not been worried about or he seems to think they are so small that they are probably ok. My doctor says by taking the one side with the nodule thats been biopsied and waiting on pathology to report if everything is cancer would be in my best interest. My question is by taking one half of the thyroid will the part left be ok and work on its own or since there is two nodules in it should I ask that the whole thing be removed. I am confused if their is cancer cells possibly papillary won t the nodules that are left have the same tendancy to develop these cells or already have them? Could a possible second surgery have to be done and how will this effect my body?
