What Causes Sacroiliitis?

I have sacroilliitis.....and have just seen a dr. Just wondering how this inflamation occurred, what the causes might be. Never want to go through that pain again. I am on the mend by self treating with ice, and alternate Tylenol and Advil. Want to avoid this again? Any thoughts?
