What Causes A Large Red Bump At The Bottom Of The Buttock?

My 2 yrold has a large welt at the bottom of his hiney. He said that he got a bite. It is a large welt and it began to welt right away. Today it has redness all around it. I am just worried it could be a spider bite or something. he has no fever and I couldnt see puncture holes.
