What Causes A Lump With Sharp Pain In The Groin Area?

Hello Can you help me please? A lump has appeared deep down in my groin on the right hand side so I looked at this website about appendicitis but I haven't experienced any of the symptoms outlined such as flatulence, diarrhea, dizziness etc and nowhere near the belly button area. It can be painful though, a sharp intermittent stabbing pain.Could it be hernia instead?
