What Causes A Neck Lump With Stiffness And Tenderness?

Hi, I woke up yesterday with slight stiffness in my neck. The stiffness got better, but I noticed my neck is tender to the touch right under my Adam's apple. There is a small 'ball' that is tender to touch. I can't really see the lump, but can feel it when I press the neck
