What Causes A Painful Circular Cut On Vagina?

a few weeks ago i developed cut on my vagina. they were in the shape of a circle. they seemed to flake and they hurt. they spread around in different parts. a week later they were all gone. I also have noticed that my boyfriend has something similar under his lip. what could this be. am i contagious.
