What Causes A Painful Lumpy Line Going Down The Ribs?

I have developed a lumpy line under my skin, going down my ribs. It looks as though it maye have stemed from some kind of bite that I itched (which appeared overnight). It was really painful at first (when i stretched) and now it seem to protrude a bit more. Is it a bite thats infested me with something?
