What Causes A Persisting Growth On My Ear Lobe?

I am 74, have several heart related health issues, hypothroidism, and a cholesterol(small) problem. But they I don t think are connected to my problem here. I have had for quite a while a small growth on my left ear lobe,(at the bottom ) and it keeps crusting over (I pick the scab which I probably shouldn t but it hursts some, but lately it seems to be scabbing over everyday, I am legally blind so I can t really get a good look at it with a mirror. I hope you can help. Any over counter medications that could help or do I need to see my pcp.?
