What Causes A Pus Filled Bump On Lower Back?

I have a bump on my lower left side of my back it has been there for a couple years. It was the size of a golf ball and was pretty sore. I was able to pop it. White stuff that smelled bad came out. It has been the size of a nickle since. A little worried why won't it go away and what is it?
