What Causes A Rash On The Legs?

i went to the doctor today and was told the rash on my leg was ring worm or poison ivy. I was given a topical cream. It has already spread to my other leg. It does not look or feel like any poison ivy i have ever had. I just want to make sure this was the right diagnosis.
