What Causes A Red Itchy Rash On The Back And Chest?

i am a 26year old male and have a red itchy rash on my back and chest. I havent changed soaps, laundry powders etc. It lasts about a few days then goes away and then flares up again. I am also a mechanic could the materials i use at work be contributing to this rash?
