What Causes A Weird Smell When Recovering From Bronchitis?

My mom is 54 she had brain aneurysm 2 years ago has a stint /coil around it now.. not sure if it has anything to do with this tho... she smells a foreign hard to explain smell in her nose when she tips her head forward. She is getting over bronchitis. She was on zpack.. she has copd.
