What Causes A White Circle At The Site Of Ear Piercing?

My daughter has had her ears pierced for about 4 months and i put some cupcake earrings in about a week ago and noticed that it was red today so i went to take it out and noticed it was ectremely tight and when i tok it off there was a white circle around her ear and i am wondering what it is and how to treat it
