What Causes A White Patch In The Face?

my son( aged 4 no health problems normally )has a bright white patch on his face for a whole year it appeared at a time of trauma when I broke my leg. ie has now slowly moved across the side of his face towards his mouth - what do you think this is and is there any treatment?
