What Causes A White Substance On Both Sides Of The Mouth?

I was hospitalized for 5 months for physical therapy due to a badly broken femur. At that time I only was allowed to take a shower once a week. After about 4 months I developed what I would call cradle cap on my scalp. The last few weeks I have been getting a white substance on both sides of my mouth. I put A&D ointment on it and it immediately disappears for several hours and then comes back. Do you have any idea what this is and how I can treat it. Thank You
