What Causes Abdominal Cramping While On Medication For UTI?

I am currently traveling out of my home state and am experiencing severe cramping similar to Menstral cramps however just finished cycle last week. I am currently taking MONO-MCR for a UTI I started getting 2 days ago. I also have a copper iud and have consulted my OB about this irregular cramping before. She suggested taking birth control pills for 1month to shed the lining of my cervix which did help but cramping has continued to get worse since then. Not sure if the cramping is correlated to my UTI or if this is something I should be a little more concerned about .
