What Causes Abdominal Pain And Constipation Post Hysterectomy?

I had a hysterectomy in March of 2014. Every now and then I experience painful, lower abdominal pain especially when gas is trying to pass. I'm also more constipated then normal. Is this a normal side effect even though its been almost a year since my hysterectomy?
