What Causes Abdominal Pain And Vaginal Bleeding After Removal Of Mirena?

I am 46 and had mirena purely for heavy period problems. Have had mirena for just short of 5 years and not had any periods for 3.5 years. I have not had mirena removed yet. But have had pain and started bleeding. Can you return to your periods when mirena is still insitu?
