What Causes Accumulation Of Mucus Causing Breathing Difficulty At Night?

hi, i am waking up a lot at nights. Seems like, at times, that i wake up short of breath. i , at times try to relax my breathing enough to notice that i feel like a flem/mucus starts blocking my breathing path. is there something i can take to clean all flem and sleep better?
