What Causes Acidity While On Metformin?

i am diabetic on metformin. I get acid stomach a lot and my son gave me a heartburn pill he takes to try. I forget the name other than i'm sure it starts with R but it has L852 printed on it, is rust colored and round. is it ok for me to take? i am also on levothyroxin, hctz, lisinopril and gemfibrozil.
