What Causes Acute Discomfort And Itching In The Eye?

It feels as if there is something small and hard inside my caruncle and every time I move my eye it is extremely uncomfortable and starts itching. I have looked in the mirror dozens of times but there is nothing there but I can feel something rubbing on my eye. What is it?
