What Causes An Ankle Bone Nevus With Swelling And Pain?

My husband has a red mark on his ankle bone "right side" I put ice on it and he wanted heat I am not a nurse but kinda know that ice keeps down the swelling he stayed home yesterday becouse he said it hurt too bad is he just being a 64 year old baby? he is at work today says it feels much better
