What Causes An Itchy Lump On The Glute?

Similar to the comments on this page, I experienced a really bad fall down five flights of stairs about four weeks ago. Most of the bruising has improved but one area near the top of my left glute is still like someone stuck a lemon under my skin. I have treated it with ice during the first 24 hours, then Aleve, a home tens unit, and periodic icing. Heat makes the area itch. I am alarmed to see comments from people that say they still have a lump after ten years.
