What Causes Atrial Fibrillation After Heart Stent Placement?

I had a stent placement done last january. I started experiencing afib immediatly after. I had a cardioversion done, and after about 5 mos. of going in and out of rythum it finally went out and has stayed out. Is it normal to contract afib after stent placement and if so please explain.
