Doctor, My wife is 62 years of age. Over the last couple of weeks she has had a problem with digestion. Every time, after she finishes eating, she feels like the food is sitting in her chest or near the bottom of her throat and there is a cool feeling in the mouth and tongue, up the nose, eyes, and sometimes in the rectal area. There is also some slight belching. During this time she has also had a constipation issue. She has some coating in the middle of her tongue. The cool feeling mentioned above in her nose gives her a sensation that her nasal passages and sinuses are coated, but she has no problem with breathing and smell. She is trying to figure out if it is reflux, a sinus, or fungal issue, or all three. Several months ago she had consulted with a biochemist she has been to intermittently (he reads blood work), and he told her based on her blood work results that he felt she had a fungus. So she has been taking Nystatin to address it. Also, she has an issue with pain in different areas of her body (her rheumatologist has basically diagnosed her with fibromyalgia). She is currently not taking any specific medications for the latter. Lastly, back in late 2012, my wife was diagnosed with CLL. She has been seeing an oncologist, for which she has not required specific treatment thus far. She is just being watched. White count has been hovering in the mid 60,000 to low 70,000s. She has acknowledged that seeing our gastro will need to happen. There are so many issues in play with her, it’s very frustrating for her (and me too). She would just like to get some answers in what to do. Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thank You. Richard Cali
