What Causes Black Spots On The Cuticles Of The Nails?

For the past year and a half, I've had these strange little black spots on my cuticles. There are days when my cuticles are pushed back and days when the cuticles are prominent and have little black spots. Moreover, they have a reddish outline behind the cuticle towards the skin. Should I be worried?
