What Causes Bleeding After Pap Smear Test?

I had a pap smear on April 13, 2011. I bleed after the test and I am still spotting like you do at the end of a period brown color. I just finished my menstrual cycle on April 8, 2011. I called my doctor and she said to wait until Friday. Can this be a serious condition?
