What Causes Bleeding After Sex?

Hi, I had a pelvic ultrasound after mentioning I sometimes bleed after sex. Ultrasound only showed a thickened lining of 6mm. What are some possible reasons for this thickening? I have to wait 3 weeks for a sona histeragram. I am 44 years old and two weeks from the last day of my last period. Thanks
